In early 1934 torrential rains in SWA caused washaways of the railway system. Surface transport ceased and extensive delays with postal services resulted. The Post Office entered into an arrangement with Mr Gordon Store of Aero Services (Pty) Ltd, Cape Town, who was doing aerial charter work in SWA. Available load space after provision for his passengers was placed at the disposal of the Post Office for its mails.
