South Africa 1925 Pilot Signed Experimental Air Postmarks Combo

1925 Government Experimental Airmail Service: PILOT SIGNED Envelope dated for the First Flight (2 MAR 1925) of the new Service franked 4d Air and 2x KGV 1d's (as required in addition to the airmail stamp). Bears signature of the pilot, CAPT RF CASPAREUTHUS at left. The stamps cancelled with bilingual SLOGAN MACHINE CANCELS "AIRMAIL SAVES TIME" used to publicise the new service. Superb strike of the Special Airmail cds at centre bottom, addressed from Cape Town "via East London" to Umtata. Wyndham writes that few covers bearing combination of the slogan and special cds, as seen here, exist. Minor imperfections, a rare letter thus from the first flight of the service. Ex Polakow.
