1926 MITTELHOLZER FLIGHT Switzerland - Cape: Monochrome picture postcard (Mittelholzer's Dornier-Merkur seaplane "Switzerland") sent Registered and franked Swiss adhesives tied by Zurich cds 28 XI. Special "AFRIKAFLUG" flight cachet, Alexandria (Egypt) transit cds. Addressed to Cairo, Egypt. VF, great with image of the aircraft. Swiss aviator Walter Mittelholzer undertook the 19000k journey between Zurich & Cape Town, this the first flight of a seaplane down Africa. Departure was 7th December and the flight was arranged via Naples where the mail was in fact unloaded and thereafter conveyed onwards by ship. Mittelholzer continued the flight arriving in Cape Town February 21st 1927.
