South Africa 1925 Alan Cobham Survey Flight Vermilion Label, KUT

1925 ALAN J COBHAM IMPERIAL AIRWAYS SURVEY FLIGHT: Special flight card prepared for carriage on this landmark London-Cape flight. Written by Cobham to his wife in Hampstead, the personally signed message reads: "We have now crossed the equator and landed about 10 miles to the south at Kisumu. All is going well..." On message side the PERFORATED VERMILION SPECIAL FLIGHT VIGNETTE LABEL (some surface abrasion). Cobham departed Croydon aerodrome on 16th November 1925 and arrived Cape Town 17th February 1926. These cards were posted from the various stops along the route, this example mailed from Kisumu, Kenya (KU 15c adhesive cancelled Kisumu cds 14 JA 26). F-VF, rare. Ex Franklin D Roosevelt.
