South Africa 1925 Alan Cobham Survey, Green Both Formats, KUT

1925 ALAN J COBHAM IMPERIAL AIRWAYS SURVEY FLIGHT: Special flight card prepared for carriage on this landmark London-Cape flight. SIGNED BY COBHAM on reverse and bearing the EXCEPTIONAL COMBINATION PERFORATE & IMPERFORATE GREEN SPECIAL FLIGHT VIGNETTE LABELS. Addressed to Stanley Spooner, Editor of "Flight" magazine in London. Cobham departed Croydon aerodrome on 16th November 1925 and arrived Cape Town 17th February 1926. These cards were posted from the various stops along the route, this example mailed from Jinja, Uganda (KU 20c adhesive cancelled Jinja cds 13 JA 26). Relevant special cancellations. Message side reads: "...Flying Kisumu tomorrow. Found Khartoum to Malakal easy flight & Malakal to Mongalla over Sud not so bad as expected..." Superb, exceedingly rare, an Aerophilatelic showpiece being one of only two known cards bearing both formats of the labels thus. See additional image.
