SA: 1929 Union Airways Inaugural Bloemfontein to Germiston: Postcard franked ½d & 4d air tied Bloemfontein cds 26 AU. Due to strong headwinds en route from Port Elizabeth and late arrival in Bloemfontein the pilot (Lt G W Bellin) decided not to continue on to Germiston (which aerodrome had only been opened two days previously) as scheduled. Accordingly the 3 bags of mail originating from the South were sent on to Johannesburg by evening train. This card was part of the small local mail (7lb8oz) which Lt Bellin did carry by air to Germiston next day. VF, interesting.
