1939 ALEX HENSHAW RECORD FLIGHT LONDON - CAPE:
Lovely neat small format envelope carried
"By favour of Alex Henshaw"
on SOUTHBOUND RECORD TRIP.
Cachets of London East Airport Gravesend (m/s date 5.2.39) and Cape Town Municipal Airport 6 Feb 1939.
Addressed to Cape Town.
SIGNED
"ALEX HENSHAW"
on front.
Backstamped London East Airport Gravesend.
With accompanying letter to L A Wyndham in Cape Town.
Rare & important piece,
only 12 letters in total carried; uni-directional ones being the more elusive.
Superb.
Ex Milton Stern.
This flight set a new record of 1 day 15 hours & 25 minutes Southbound. Henshaw flew a Percival Mew Gull. His racing pilot friend Air Commodore Arthur Clouston described this flight as "Probably the most outstanding solo flight ever made."
We believe that as solo flights the records stand to this day.
