SA: 1934 GRAHAMSTOWN SPECIAL MAIL / JUNKERS INAUGURAL FLIGHT: A milestone in South African aviation was reached when the Junkers JU52 "ZS-AFA Jan van Riebeeck" was put into service on November 15th for the Durban-Cape Town airmail. On this flight the aircraft landed at Grahamstown in place of the temporarily closed Port Elizabeth airport. This cover was accepted through the Grahamstown post office on 15 November left Grahamstown 16 November arriving Cape Town same day. The cover is franked with 2d &1d. SIGNED BY PILOTS Captain F C J Fry and co-pilot L J Louw as well as the flight engineer and wireless operator. VF, exceedingly rare, only 14 letters carried.
