Backstamp Durban FEB 4 1879 and, of maritime interest, Holyhead & Kingston Packet cds MR 15.
VF, rare use of this canceller applied to mail entering Natal from Zululand at Stanger in this early part of the Zulu War campaign.
A rare campaign cover written WITHIN THE PERIOD OF THE WAR which ended with the battle of Ulundi on 4th July 1879.
The writer likely Captain Geoffrey Barton, 7th Fusiliers, attached as Staff Officer to Colonel Durnford's No2 column.
