1893 KLERKSDORP MANUSCRIPT CANCELLATION: Envelope with contents from the Burmeister correspondence (to Cape Town). Franked 2x 1893 1d on 6d blue (SG 197) tied by manuscript "Klerksdorp / 20 Apr / 1893" cancellation. Adhesives paid the 2d per half ounce letter rate. The amazing confirmation of the non-contrived commercial nature of the letter is given by the contained missive enquiring after a spirit level sent to Burmeister for repair. The recipient's notations and Cape Town compass wheel cds (AP 24) provide additional provenance. Certainly few exist; quite likely a unique example.
