Transvaal 1887 Bakker Express Letter to Senegal, Showpiece

1887 BAKKER EXPRESS COVER: Registered cover from Emil Tamsen in Nylstroom to Dakar, Senegal bearing quite spectacular franking of 1d pink Bakker Express label paying carriage from Nylstroom to Pretoria (cancelled boxed "WATERBERG" handstamp), 4x 6d blue Vurtheim and 1d carmine Vurtheim making up a total rate of 25d being double the "via Cape" rate plus 6d for registration. The Transvaal adhesives are tied by large PRETORIA / GEREGISTREERD ovals 1 JUL 87 in blue. GPO Natal, London & Calais transits; Rufisque arrival. A remarkable unusual destination. An outstanding showpiece, a rarity. Photo-cert: BPA. The envelope was clearly intended to be sent via Cape as it is franked at 2d per ┬Żoz more than was required for the Natal routing over which it actually travelled.
