1874 BOOK POST MAIL, George to Cape Town: Address panel from printed auctioneer's notice endorsed "Per Book Post" franked 1d on 6d MAJOR SHIFT OF OVPT (bar & value close together at base of stamp) (SG 32var, elusive stamp on cover!) well tied by very scarce BONC 17 of George, lovely strike of George oval datestamp DE 17 at left. F-VF, a rare stamp used for this interesting application of the reduced rate. Internal carriage of circulars and the like was regulated by the INLAND BOOK POST, Proclamation 54 (1862) amended Act 30 (1864). A "BOOK PACKET" without cover or open at end or sides - was allowed to contain "PUBLICATIONS - including printed letters and printed matter of every kind".
