1860 FULLY PREPAID 7d per ¼oz rate to France: Small format envelope franked with delightful bicolour combination of 1d brick-red & 6d deep rose-lilac (SG 5 & 7b) triangles tied by triangular defacers leaving Hope clear. Touched along sides to margins in places, designs mainly intact, see scans. Relevant datestamps of July 1860 including "PD" In circle struck in red denoting postage fully prepaid. With faults and neat restoration to envelope in places, full of character, a charming letter. This little-seen rate/destination was in force 1858-1860 (changed to 8d per ¼oz from 13th August 1860), a very rare surviving example. See additional image.
