c1850 STELLENBOSCH to Cape Town: Neat blue folded wrapper addressed (in Dutch) to "The Master of the Supreme Court, Cape Town" and bearing at lower left a strike of the Stellenbosch OCTAGONAL 10 handstamp. Endorsed "PP" with rating mark "4d". F-VF, rare. For whatever reason the lower numbered Octagonals remain amongst the most elusive of the Cape pre-stamp markings.
