Cape of Good Hope 1903 Rare Sms Zenta Naval Mail Acceptance


1903 Picture postcard written from East London franked Cape KEVII ½d adhesive tied "VaK KRIEGSMARINE / S.M.S. ZENTA" cds 19 1 03. The "Zenta" was an Austro-Hungarian warship at that time deployed from her base in Trieste on a foreign voyage to Cape Town. An extremely rare representation of this Naval mail. VF. SMS Zenta was a small light cruiser built for the Austro-Hungarian Navy, lead ship of her class, named after the town of Senta. SMS Aspern and SMS Szigetvár were her sister ships. Zenta was originally conceived for foreign cruise deployment, primarily to show the flag abroad despite the Austro-Hungarian empire having no great colonial ambitions.
