Cape of Good Hope 1873 Promissory Note Cradock, 2/- & 1/-'s


1873 PROMISSORY NOTE of the Cradock Branch of the Eastern Province Bank. Cape QV 2/- & 4x 1/- Revenues affixed duly cancelled with crisp strikes of the bank's and stamp. F-VF, attractive note. The note was effected by the Settler leader Sir John Frost who arrived at the Cape in 1849. A farmer, soldier & politician, he was renowned for his military skills during the 8th Frontier War (1850-53), the 9th Border War (1877-78), the Gun War (1880) and quelling of the Transkei Rebellion (1880-81). He was awarded KCMG in 1904 in recognition of his long career of public service.
