Vryburg 1899 Letter First Day of Boer Occupation, Scarce

1899 Blue foolscap envelope (252x103mm) bearing Transvaal ZAR stamps from ½d to 1/-, including the penny postage commemorative, all tied by superb strikes Vryburg cds 21 OC 99 - THE FIRST DAY OF THE BOER OCCUPATION OF VRYBURG. With Wolmaransstad arrival marks of 30 OCT 99 also struck on front. A colourful and exceptionally attractive piece reflecting the Boer jubilation at taking the town. Rare piece. Ex Leask correspondence. On the 21st October 1899 a Boer force of 1200 men under Gen Koos de la Rey occupied the town. On the 9th May 1900 the British forces recaptured Vryburg.
