TRANSVAAL: 1900 MACHADODORP PROCLAMATION CARD: Pre-printed ½d Postcard Numbered 54, recording the ZAR Government announcement, by authority of President Kruger & State Secretary FW Reitz, that from the 6?? Bloemfontein was captured by the British 13 March 1900, they moved north to encircle Johannesburg 31 May, capturing Pretoria 5 June. As early as 7 May the ZAR Government gave up hope of defending Pretoria. On the eve of 29 May President Kruger and his entourage left Pretoria for Machadodorp which became the Seat of Government until the defeat of the Boers at Bergendal 27 August 1900.
