Transvaal 1899 Commandant Generaal Cachet Letter

BOER CENSORSHIP: 1899 A marvellous campaign-worn stampless envelope (being a ZAR In Service stationery envelope) from Pretoria (cds 22 NOV) to England with part strike in black of the rare circular COMMANDANT GENERAAL CACHET dated 22 NOV 1899. This handstamp was used as a censor marking on Officer's POW mail from the Model School camp until the camp's closure on 16th March 1900 (prior to the introduction of regular censor marks). Taxed 1d on arrival, part backflap missing, folds and other imperfections. Full of character, rare.
