  • HARRISONS/NETHERLANDS ROTOGRAVURE SPECIMENS:
  • Around 1923 the Dutch Firm Nederlandsche Rotogravure Maatschappij of Leiden produced many printing cylinders for Harrisons of London and also a few stamps.
  • This range of specimen stamps was probably intended for Harrisons sample books.
  • The group comprises all 15 of the known 1923 perforated designs and colours together with 5 IMPERF examples in various designs or colours.
  • The imperfs are described by Robson Lowe as "Some imperfs were also produced... but these are exceedingly rare."
  • Unusual & fascinating, rare as group thus.
  • See below for copy of relevant section in Samuel and article from The Philatelist of March 1979 suggesting that 1200 of the perforated specimens were produced but only a handful of each still exist. The imperfs are described as "exceedingly rare".
