South Africa 1920 KGV 1d Bisect on Cover

1920 Envelope from Johannesburg (JUN 1) addressed to Cape Town franked with KGV 1d and BISECT of similar 1d. Adhesives tied by Johannesburg machine cancel. Tad light tones to envelope, scarce and interesting piece making up the correct postal rate. From 10th May 1920 (when the Inland and Empire letter rate was increased from 1d to 1½d per 1oz) until the new 1½d definitive was placed on sale (on August 23rd), or in absence thereof, it appears that certain last-minute experiments were carried out which included the surcharging of the existing 1d stamps and bisecting of 1d's to make up the rate. See additional image below of Post Office Circular dealing with the rate change. Circular NOT include with cover... For information only.
