1895 COLEMAN PROVISIONAL:
From the 18th to the 23rd March (excluding 19th - ONLY FIVE DAYS) following a shortage of ½d stamps,
J.W. Coleman, the Durban Postmaster, was authorised to sell prepared & signed envelopes confirming receipt of ½d in cash for local delivery.
Covers were endorsed in manuscript
"One Halfpenny received in money"
and signed by the Postmaster.
This unsealed example used locally in Durban on March 22nd,
showing a full clear postmark, the required endorsement, signature & Postmaster's handstamp in violet.
VF, scarce, a superior example.
