The mortgage was for £630,000. The stamp duty on mortgage bonds in this period was 5/- for every £100 or part thereof of the amount of the mortgage. Thus in this instance the stamp duty due was £1,575 being paid by the sixty-three £25 affixed here. In making up the revenue stamps for payment a single full sheet of sixty stamps was used: the selvedge and one row was removed, the row then being used on the second sheet together with three additional stamps.
