Transvaal Revenues 1876 Proof Impressions Plain Relief Dies

REVENUES: 1876-77 Pearled Oval and Pearled Circle designs inscribed "TRANSVAAL" at top: seven numbered pages (320x194mm) from official records showing embossed impressions in intense black of various duty stamps which in use were applied in relief, sometimes against inked backgrounds. A fine array of 26 impressions apparently taken in the 1930's as proofings of the dies withdrawn and consigned to the SA Museum. An exceedingly rare and desirable assembly illustrative of the plain relief revenue "stamps". Superb.

Whilst impressions in the accompanying illustration may appear similar there are in fact differences in control letters and numbers embodied in each die which presumably differentiate between the offices in which the specific dies were used.
