Cape of Good Hope 1884-1902 Presentation Specimens, Rare

PRESENTATION SPECIMENS GROUP comprising 1884-90 2d & 6d, 1893-1902 ½d & 1d, 1893-98 2½d, 3d, 4d, 1/- & 5/- each handstamped "SPECIMEN" in violet with small italic type SA1. F-VF/M or large part OG, some creases or minor imperfections, generally superior for these. An exceedingly rare group thus. (SG50a, 52, 58, 59a, 63-65, 67-8). Photo-cert: BPA.
Believed to have been prepared for presentation purposes prior to Union. This italic handstamp was utilised by the Cape Colony for defacement of incoming Record Book specimens that were not already marked "Specimen". See additional image and of certificate below.
