Cape of Good Hope 1861 Consignee Letter / Forwarding Agent

CONSIGNEE'S LETTER / FORWARDING AGENTS: 1861 (22nd July) Printed circular sent as CONSIGNEE'S LETTER from the Forwarding Agents THOMSON WATSON in Cape Town advising the dissolution of their partnership Company. This particular letter was addressed to "Joseph Natia Esq / Cadiz" in Spain and - after travelling to England as Consignee's Mail - entered the normal posts in London where Lombard Street PAID cds of NO 19 61 applied. Blue FRANCO marks, including the arrival of Cadiz on front. Superb, attractive example of this rare class of mail with the added interest regarding the Forwarding Agents. VF. From 1854-74 owners & charterers of and consignees of goods vessels were entitled to have their letters not exceeding 6oz carried on that vessel without payment of the usual ship letter rate.
