1905 Victoria Falls 1/- blue-green (SG 97). VF/U example cancelled with a very fine strike in black of the special cds "BRITISH ASSOCIATION VICTORIA FALLS" dated SEP 12 1905. Rare & exceptionally attractive thus.
September 12th was the opening day for the Victoria Falls road/rail bridge (opened by Prof Darwin) as well as being a public holiday with the result that THE POST OFFICE WAS ONLY OPEN FOR TWO HOURS to commemorate the visit of the British Association for whose benefit the special cancel was used. Accordingly SEP 12 is the most elusive of the usages of this interesting postmark.
