SA: 1936 SCHLESINGER AIR RACE: Cover carried by Flying Officer A E Clouston annotated "Per favour of Flying Officers AE Clouston and FE Tasker in the Schlesinger Air Race". Clouston crashed in Southern Rhodesia on 3rd October and continued the flight to South Africa by easy stages after dropping out of the race. This cover franked with SA 1d Ship and mailed from Johannesburg (8 X 36) to Cape Town. SIGNED BY PILOT with endorsement "Signature / F/O RAFC // No 8 G-ADOD". Clouston carried few pieces of mail, not all signed. VF, scarce.
