1903 KEVII Issue, PAIR of proofs comprising
1) MASTER PROOF OF KEY DIE frame & vignette in black
with UNCLEARED DUTY/VALUE TABLETS & SURROUND larger-than-stampsize on glazed card.
From the De La Rue printer's Day Book, an uncommon Primary state of the die as composite of the frame & vignette (the so-called "Key Die") for these bicoloured stamps.
2) Stampsize die proof from the Secondary die, now with 6d engraved in the value tablets and central vignette cleared.
In cutting the vignette from the Key Master the two black markings either side of the Crown were lost.
Superb, a rare pair.
Ex De La Rue archives, van Heerden & Trotter.
