LARGE FORMAT IMPERF COLOUR TRIAL IN 6D DESIGN:
Red & green as proposed and accepted for the colour change of the 2/-.
Marked
"Appendix"
and headed
"19th February 1906 / Orange River Colony / Req 6/06."
Accompanying original description from the De La Rue Collection reads
"On Feb 7, 1906 the Crown Agents advised us that the Govt. of the Colony requested a change in the colour of the 2/- Revenue stamps. None of our submission of Feby. 9th pleased them, and this further specimen printed in doubly-fugitive green with bright red head at their suggestion was submitted on February 19th, and approved on Feb. 21st, 1906.."
The approval initialling is that of Sir William Mercer of the Crown Agents.
An outstanding exhibition showpiece.
