1851 (30th July) BERLIN MISSIONARY PART ENTIRE
written by Missionary Wilhelm Rein from "Bethany", the first mission station established on the banks of the Riet River on the 24th September 1834.
The letter wrapper is addressed to Revd Muhlmann in Berlin "via Belguim" "Per Hellespont" and shows the double oval General Post Office / Cape Town mark,
rate markings in red, blue and black with backstamped transit & arrival marks.
A rare & attractive early missionary letter from the Orange Free State, through the Cape to Europe.
A similar entire was offered on the Argyll Etkin auction 30 Sept 2016 as Lot 990, written five days later by the same Missionary to the same Addresee. Rein arrived at Bethany in 1848.
