RAILWAY: 1905 KEVII 1d overprinted CSAR, a strip of three on CSAR OHMS letter
from the (cachet at lower left)
"Chief Railway Supervisor / Germiston / 25 JUL 1905"
to Collector of Customs, Johannesburg.
The CSAR adhesives (SG RO4) tied by Germiston cds 25 JY.
Envelope folded at centre and right (affects bottom stamp), backstamped arrival Johannesburg cds JY 26.
An attractive representation of this rare use, particularly so as triple franking thus.
One of only a handful of CSAR franked letters extant.
The CSAR overprinted stamps are believed to have been in use for a period of only about 11 months, February to December 1905.
