1894 UNION LINE BOOKPOST MAIL TO MEXICO: Cape QV ½d Postal Stationery envelope (Quik E 1 A) addressed "per R.M.S. Tartar / per Bookpost", uprated Hope Seated totalling 2d (1d corner defect), from GARDENS T.O to the exotic destination of MEXICO. Front shows manuscript numbers added & deleted & transit cds Nuervo Laredo Mexico Dic 11. Backstamped Cape Town NO 2 & NO 6 and arrival 14 DIC. The Gardens T.O (Telegraph Office, rated extremely scarce by Putzel) was a suburb of Cape Town and the letter was held over in Cape Town (cds NO 6), delivery coinciding with the sailing date of the Union Line Mail Steamer. The reverse of the envelope shows the sender as "F. Borchert / ANNANDALE MILLS / Cape Town / South Africa". Interesting rating to an impressive destination. See additional image.
