1862 Folded stampless letter headed "Grootfontein 1st November 1862" written by one D Pienaar of this farm Grootfontein situated some 10km from Beaufort West. Addressed to "C Pritchard Esq, Beaufort West" The letter content bemoans the challenges and expenses of feeding the Post horses for which the farm provided a victualling station. Some imperfections, a wonderful piece of social ephemera of the postal services of the time. The addressee, Charles Pritchard, was a prominent lawyer and councillor in Beaufort West.
