Cape of Good Hope 1810c Wrapper with Superb Oval Medallion

  • 1810c Lovely folded letter wrapper bearing exceptionally fine strike of the Oval Medallion handstamp.
  • Addressed to the Secretary for Justice, Cape Town.
  • Rated "2sk" in manuscript.
  • Superb.
  • Also known as the "Post Office Seal", this first handstamp was intended to record pre-payment of postage for inland mail only. The design, with the words "Post Office" added, originated from the official seal introduced by Govenor Sir David Baird and was very similar to the "May Britain Flourish" seal used in England.
