1851 BELVIDERE to Cape Town: Immaculate folded entire (97x215mm)
annotated
"On Service"
,
"Post Accounts Belvidere-Knysna"
and addressed to the Postmaster-General in Cape Town.
The entire bears a F-VF strike of the Belvidere OCTAGONAL 44 handstamp at top right.
VF, rare, the handstamp having originally being allocated to Knysna and recorded in use for only 12 months.
Text reads:
"Belvidere-Knysna July 8 1851 / Sir, I herewith enclose my Post Office Accounts for the months of May and June 1851 amounting in all to £2.3.10 which sum I shall cause to be paid into the hands of the Civil Commissioner for George without delay. / I am Sir / Your obedt Servant / T Duthie / Honorary Agent / Belvidere-Knysna."
Thomas Henry Duthie was the first Postmaster (from 1844) and original developer of the small village of Belvidere
