Frescura (2002) records the post office at Mossel Bay (Aliwal) opening in 1830 but probably closing 1840-44 when the position of postmaster was vacant. No postal markings are recorded for Mossel Bay before 1849 (this wrapper dated 1845) when the post office was issued the Octagonal Numeral 33.
