1879 MISSIONARY LETTER: Envelope to Rev W Holford in London from Grahamstown and franked Hope Seated 6d clearly tied by the Numeral 3 canceller. The front shows also the transit cds of Cape Town JY 21 and on the reverse the backstamps of Grahamstown and London. Interestingly the reverse side also shows writings in light pencil and some words are difficult to decipher. A scan is shown below. Light overall toning not detracting. This is the first and only Holford letter from the Cape Rectangular period we have seen, such scarcity being surprising since the minister died in 1911 age 80.
