c1850 GRAHAMSTOWN to CAPE TOWN: Folded letter wrapper addressed "On HM Service" to "H Lynaz Esq, Attorney General's Office, Cape Town" and bearing at top left a superb strike of the Grahamstown OCTAGONAL 46 handstamp. The letter was unpaid with free postage in accordance with the OHMS status. This elusive handstamp is recorded in use for a period of only 1½ months between 11th December 1849 and 25th January 1850.
