South Africa 1925 Bradbury Printers Photo-Essay Van Riebeeck

c1927 Bradbury Wilkinson Archival Photo-Essays for Pictorials: 4d Jan van Riebeeck unaccepted design in English. Van Riebeeck was the first Dutch VOC Company Governor appointed at the Cape of Good Hope in 1652. He was responsible for building the Castle and developing agriculture (including viticulture) at the Cape. VF, probably unique. PRINTERS RECORD BOOK PHOTO-ESSAYS: Bradbury Wilkinson Ltd maintained daily record books reflecting the various works in progress. These records were in photographic format and comprise then-contemporary photographs of the various artworks, handpainted essays, accepted and unaccepted designs in progress. When dates are shown these are the entry dates into the archive record books. By way of comparison to archival materials of the other stamps printers these photographic records can for Bradbury Wilkinson be likened to the so-called "day book" die proofs affixed to the ledger pages in the De La Rue records. As with the De La Rue day book items these Bradbury Wilkinson pieces are similarly important and typically unique. Provenance: Can be reconciled with images of the intact archive prior to distribution.
