1862 Delightful small format envelope from Durban to Leeds, England, franked with pair QV Chalon 3d blue, rough perf (SG 12) tied by indistinct strikes of "1" numeral Durban. Crowned Natal 1 SEP and LONDON PAID OC 30 62. Leeds arrival cds OC 30 on reverse. An attractive early Chalon letter at the prepaid 6d rate. Ex Trotter. From 1st January1862 Natal stamps were accepted for prepayment of the overseas postage. Hence the absence on this cover of the large "6d" charge marks seen on comparable 1861 covers.
