1881 OFFICER'S LETTER from Beresford correspondence, forwarded at the required 6d (SG 70) rate from Ladysmith via Pietermaritzburg to Ireland. The envelope, correctly signed, shows the adhesive bearing the despatch No 19 Numeral canceller with transit and arrival marks on reverse. F, scarce military mail from the senior ranks. At the time of writing this letter, Captain Charles Bereford of the Royal Engineers was on active service as part of peace keeping forces following the end of the 1st Boer War 16 December 1880 to 23 March 1881.
