1881 OFFICER'S LETTER from the Beresford correspondence, forwarded at the required 6d (SG 103) rate from Newcastle via Durban to Ireland. The envelope, correctly signed, shows the adhesive tied by a partial despatch cds 10 11 with transit and arrival marks on reverse. Couple minor imperfections, scarce military mail.
At the time of writing this letter, Captain Charles Beresford of the Royal Engineers was on active service as part of peace keeping forces following the Transvaal War of Independence (1st Boer War) 1880-81.
